Here's the first post for the Southland Girl's High School Professional Learning Groups. It's a space for us to reflect on the use of PLGs in a school environment, successes, obstacles, and other discussion.
It may also provide a useful archive of PD completed during the school year.

Pip and I are looking foward to presenting sessions on Restorative practices. In our training we have appreciated how far down the track our school is and that restorative practices are already in evidence and continuing down this line is jsut a natural progression for us as a school. We look foward to talking the talk. 'Relationships' is where it is at.
Help! I really haven't been away that long but what are Restorative Practices? I'll come back next year and won't be able to 'talk the talk' so please fill me in!
Hi Robyn! I feel lucky to have been part of this PD with the YLC team. Restorative practice is quite satisfying in that you are "re-storying" problems. When an issue occurs you sit down with the student and discuss the problem / behaviour rather than them as a person. You uncover what effects this issue has on the student and others then start to focus on places or times when the behaviour is not evident and then discuss their positive qualities. Together you create an action plan and set a date to review the situation. It is a really positive experience to be part of and it is good to have the structure. I'm sure you will agree with Rowana - SGHS is already progressing well down this track!
